No, I’m Not Pregnant

Last year some time I was sitting down with one of my friends at dinner and told her I had something to tell her. Perhaps it was the excitement in my voice, or the edge of nervousness she could sense I had about what I was about to say. Whatever the case, she threw her arms around me and said “oh Amanda, I’m so happy for you… it’s about time!” At first, I thought to myself “how did she know?” Then the words played back it’s about time. She didn’t know. She just misunderstood. I am at that age in my life where any time there is news everyone assumes it is a baby. Well, friends, this isn’t a baby. Sorry for the let down.

But, I do have incredibly wonderful, exciting, huuuuuuge news. I have written this post so many times in my head now that it feels almost surreal to be actually composing it. WE ARE MOVING TO NEW HAMPSHIRE. It is a whirlwind of emotions over here. I have both extreme enthusiasm and a heavy heart in writing this, of course. Philadelphia has been such a wonderful experience for me. When we moved here four years ago, I never imagined we would like it half as much as we did. I never imagined we’d buy our first house here. Adopt another dog here. Meet so many wonderful people here. I never imagined Philadelphia to be welcoming, enjoyable, lively, and wonderful… but it is.

Over the last two years we have done a lot of talking about our visions for our long-term. Where do we want to settle? Possibly raise a family? We realized that the majority of our rare days off together were spent driving out of the city, rather than in. We frequently wander off to go snowboarding in the Poconos. Summer afternoons with nice weather, we take drives to Wissahickon to let the dogs play in the water, or take our bikes up the Schuylkill trail. (And yes, even after living here for four years I still just had to look up how to spell Schuylkill.) So, it only made sense to us when considering a permanent home for ourselves that we embrace what we truly enjoy and pick some place that reflects that. We took a short vacation to Vermont & New Hampshire last year and fell in love.

All that being said, it warms my heart to know that at least I will just be a short drive away from a visit… one that I intend to make quite often. And, of course, if any of you know anyone in the Vermont/New Hampshire area (we’ll be living right on the border), please send them my way. I am so excited to meet new people, discover new locations, and share the journey along the way.

To my Philadelphia friends and dear client-friends, no words can thank you enough. For trusting in me. For helping me become who I am today — both personally and as a business. It is because of you that I am able to do this to begin with and I cannot begin to tell you what that means to me. I truly feel that I could not have been any luckier with the people I’ve met while living and working here. Much love to you all.

For the ultra-observant, you might have noticed a new watermark on my images. THE FIRST PEEK! We’ll save that exciting announcement for another post. One big change at a time, people. 😉
