Before I go any further, let me begin by sharing with you one of the highlights from Nicole & Colin’s wedding last Saturday. The one thing they said they HAD TO HAVE was a good jumping shot. With fourteen people, I knew the pressure was on.

At first glance, I immediately loved this one. We’ve got air time for all but the pregnant bridesmaid (she gets a free pass on this one, guys!). And, LOOK AT THOSE EXPRESSIONS. Plus, the bride is clearly the highest jump of everyone and I love that.
It wasn’t until I started really editing the fine details that I had to do a double take. That’s right. Did you see it on the first pass? Take a look again.

There is not just someone in the background, but someone in the background that appears to be intentionally peeping through the people jumping. Upon further examination I realize, well, see for yourselves.

Yep. He’s not just there, he’s totally posing. And, better yet, he’s even SMILING. The laughter that erupted when I discovered this is surely unmatched. At first I thought, oh no – he ruined my favorite shot. And then I realized that, no, he made my favorite shot.
One of the best parts of shooting in the city is the backdrop – not just the big buildings and urban atmosphere, but also the people. If this were, say, an intimate shot of the bride and groom kissing, I’d be very sad he was distracting in the background like this (though, let’s be honest, I’d still probably find it hilarious because of his expression, if nothing else). But given the point to this shot – the fun in this shot – well, he just kind of completes it, in my opinion.
What do you think? If this were your shot, would you be mad about the guest appearance? Did you laugh as hard as I did? Or, better yet, have you had any guest appearances yourself in your shots?
