REINVENTING THE ALBUM

Recently, someone sent me this article on the iPad. I have seen the iPad. Played with the iPad. Lusted over the iPad. But considered it as a part of my packages? Never before. Word has it that the iPad is the wave of the future, or something like that. Photographers on the cutting edge are offering it as an option to their clients with the benefits being twofold: (1) to pique the interest of the oft-bored groom during the photography booking process, and (2) to offer an alternative to – OR SUPPLEMENT TO – the traditional thick-paged bound album that your parents and grandparents may have had from their weddings.

Why? Well, because it’s no secret that the generation of today is one of technology. It’s fact: many recently engaged couples updated their status on Facebook before they even called their parents with the news. So, why would we treat our wedding any differently? Purchasing an “iPad Package” would allow brides and grooms the opportunity to share their photos in a revolutionary way.

With the high-resolution, 9.7-inch LED-backlit display, it shows images in likely one of the best formats possible. And, at just 1.5 pounds and a .5-inch-thick is far more portable than that leather-bound 10×10. Plus, your photographer selling such a package may opt to load a slideshow or album design and your images optimized for web-resolution – making display of your wedding photos never easier. And you want to talk about impressing your viewers? Can you think of a better way?

So with all that considered, I want to know. What do you think? Are you in?
If your photographer were to offer you an iPad package, what would you want included? A slideshow? An album design? Something else?

Nicole - Darin’s eyes would have lit up…if our photographer would have presented this idea!!! we probably would have done Ipad and traditionally album..August 29, 2010 – 9:58 AM

Corinne - I have seen this idea online lately. I’m on the fence. I love it. It’s so…modern.August 29, 2010 – 10:18 PM

Onada - Definitely very modern – As a bride I’d want it but then I’d wonder how soon it would get dated… I’m a sucker for traditional albums!September 3, 2010 – 1:16 AM

Heather DiPiazza - I just had a similar conversation with some friends recently. I think it’s a fantastic idea… but also see what Onada is saying about missing the tangibility of an album you can touch/feel and experience first-hand. It could be cool to offer an upgrade for a digital version of the album that is ipad compatible – You get the best of both worlds…September 7, 2010 – 12:00 PM
